XABI ALONSO ON CRISTIANO RONALDO
In an exclusive interview with ESPN, Xabi Alonso has talked about his former team mate winning the first major tournament since the Spanish maestro retired from international football.
On Ronaldo, he said, "I'm very pleased for him. We know that he's pretty ambitious, and he had already achieved everything possible at club level. You could see how much it mean to him to win a title for his country, the first one ever for Portugal. I'm really glad that he's got this trophy in his cabinet. It was a big moment for himself and for Portugal as a whole. He enjoyed it."
This summer's was the first tournament Spain have participated in without Alonso since 2002. He told ESPN FC, "Watching [the matches] made me realise just how difficult it was to achieve three in a row with Spain."
